Biotechnically Speaking

Jeffrey Perkel has been a scientific writer and editor since 2000, when he left academia to join the staff of The Scientist magazine as a Senior Editor for Technology. He holds a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, and did postdoctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania and at Harvard Medical School. As of Sept. 26, 2016, he is Technology Editor at Nature.

From 2006 to 2016, Jeffrey was a freelance science writer specializing in lab technologies and methods. His freelance clients include the American Chemical Society, Biocompare.com, BioTechniques (contributing writer), Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods, NOVA Next, Science, The Scientist, and the University of Pennsylvania. From May 2013–March 2015, Jeffrey was part-time managing editor for scientific content at Biocompare.
